To Start
- Cut a length of VinylGuard 2″ longer than the conveyor roller to allow for longitudinal shrinkage
- Slide the VinylGuard over the roller, overlapping each end 1″
Recommended Heat Sources:
FOR STRAIGHT CONVEYOR ROLLERS:
- For small quantities use a high-temperature heat gun with a high velocity air blower, such as a VinylGuard VT-1100
- To quickly shrink larger quantities of straight rollers, use a convection oven or a conveyor oven
FOR TAPERED CONVEYOR ROLLERS:
- Use convection oven
Using a heat gun
- Hold the heat gun 3″ to 4″ away from the material to prevent burning
CAUTION – DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE HEAT DIRECTLY TO THE CREASE - Slowly begin shrinking at one end. Rotate the roller while rapidly moving the heat gun back and forth to avoid burning the vinyl. Apply sufficient heat to remove any wrinkles
- Allow the conveyor roller to fully cool
- Trim the excess vinyl with a sharp blade or utility knife and apply a little heat to remove any wrinkles
Using a convection oven
- In a 300°F (149°C) convection oven, place the conveyor rollers on a jig or holding fixture to allow the hot air to circulate
- The rollers should remain in the oven for approximately 4 minutes
- Remove the rollers from the oven and allow them to fully cool
- Trim the excess vinyl with a sharp blade or utility knife
Using a conveyor oven
- In a 300°F (149°C) conveyor oven, place the rollers on the conveyor.
- Adjust the conveyor speed to allow the rollers to remain in the oven for approximately 4 minutes
- Remove the rollers from the oven and allow them to fully cool
- Trim the excess vinyl with a sharp blade or utility knife
VinylGuard skatewheel covers come in bags of pre-cut pieces
To Start
- Push the skatewheel into a pre-cut piece of VinylGuard
- Align the VinylGuard to equally overlap each side of the skatewheel
Using a heat gun This should take 3-5 seconds each —
- Hold the heat gun 3″ to 4″ away from the material to prevent burning
CAUTION – DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE HEAT DIRECTLY TO THE CREASE - Stand the wheel up and apply heat to the face of the wheel
- Hold the gun in one position and slowly roll the wheel forward
- Apply a little extra heat on each side of the overlapped edge
Using a convection oven — This should take 1 minute
- String the skatewheels across a rod
- Hang the rod horizontally in a 300°F convection oven for 1 minute
- Remove skatewheels from the oven and allow to fully cool
